I’m from Brook and Kraig
Running in the night behind the Lafayette house
I’m from hiding behind my pillow during thunder storms
Getting up early to see the sunrise
Picking ripe, bright red raspberries and carrots ‘till my knees hurt
I’m from locking myself in my room listening to Barney
I’m from being the bigger person
Jumping on the tramp until the anger disappears
Lying in the rain crying
I’m from taking artistic photos,
Blocking out the world with my IPod
I’m from two sisters with competition
Staying up late laughing and arguing
I’m from being there for each other through the hard, sad, good, fun, and surprising times
Running to the park for Groundies
I’m from traveling together to New Zealand or Boulder,
Being chased by a sea lion or swinging for hours
I’m from seeing cute boys to avoiding creeps
I’m from long swim practices and new shoes
Taking trips to warm places
Heading to Montana at my uncle’s private club and getting stuck in the snow
I’m from big family get – togethers
I’m from the fancy table sets, rich classy people, and not fitting in
Worthless young kid drama
I’m from nine cousins to family reunions where we don’t know anybody,
Missing the group picture and eating ice cream at a separate table as if we’re not the same
I’m from crazy boyfriend emails splitting the family apart,
Making them untrustworthy for eternity
I’m from a family of love and a hint of judge hidden behind the smiling faces
I’m from visiting the world,
Camping instead of the fancy hotels
I’m from hiking fourteeners for hours and cheering on elite runners
I’m from planting a garden and checking on it until I see a bud, a leaf, a flower developing
I’m from muddy feet watching bike races, enjoying lake parties and barbeques
I’m from my best friend at a running camp
Meeting one person, knowing one person
Window talking with cute boys
Videoing our every thought
Crazy loud late nights and early morning runs to relaxing yoga
To not wanting to say goodbye to the lovely memories
I’m from visiting Mexico annually
Staying at a private resort, a peninsula to ourselves
I’m from getting up at midnight to watch a huge ship come in
Taking hundreds of pictures of the Lift Bridge
To getting ticks and ten cookie packages
Meeting strangers and eating at a restaurant more than once
I’m from pushing to tears
Hard workouts to achieve accomplishment
Focusing on this, and this only
I’m from the defeated attitude to “trying your best all of the time”
I’m from not giving up
I’m from developing who I am, not only as a runner, but
As a person
